Tim DavisI’m a 29 year old internet enthusiast who loves to hack and is known as Davis. I’ve been living in Melbourne, Australia my entire life and have studied all sorts of different disciplines from Chemical Engineering and Microbiology, to pure Mathematics for a while, to Commerce & Business, Law and now coding. You can read a bit about me in this post and my views on following your dreams.

While I’m no software engineer by trade, I find technology and its application to human life fascinating. I’m keen to enrol in a Postgraduate Computer Science course at some point in the future because of my new found love for C# and the power of Web Services that Microsoft Technologies can so easily provide – although I’ve loved learning it by myself. (sidenote: I own both a PC and a Mac – so no fanboy comments). I have an active interest in Design & User Interface work and I handle all things from Management, User Interface & Experience, Design, CSS2/CSS3, HTML4/HTML5, JavaScript to setting up GIT with Msysgit (first person to claim this on Windows!)  and Debugging. I am truly passionate about Design and User Interface work and spend most of my day dealing with HTML/CSS, Cross-Browser testing and everything Javascript.

I began exploring the internet in 1998 and self-taught HTML/CSS and basic Javascript at the beginning of 2004. While some may argue this was long after the dot-com boom, it was the same year that Google launched its IPO – so I consider it an omen. When I finished high school, I had my heart set on a Chemical Engineering and Virology career, but I just couldn’t get myself enthralled in it enough to do it for my entire life. I changed to Business Law & Finance primarily because of the love of numbers, and from this discovered that I actually enjoyed studying law and its relation to technology. I created a few sites in my spare time and they taught me a lot about search engine optimization, coding and database management when I first created them – so they were a fantastic start to my internet journey.

At this point in my life, I still believed that Finance was the way to go so I completed numerous Graduate Study Programs around Technical Analysis and Investment Finance – even starting the CFA program before finally deciding that I was sick of Finance at the ripe old age of 23. I then enrolled in a Masters of Business Law, and also enrolled into a Masters of Law (Juris Doctor). I’ve completed both but unsure where I’m heading next. Stuff I’ve done [to nerd it up] includes:

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Double Major Business Law/Finance)
  • Diploma of Financial Services (Stockbroking)
  • Diploma of Technical Analysis (ATAA)
  • Certified Financial Technician (IFTA)
  • Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment (SIA)
  • Masters of Business Law (MBL)
  • Qualified Trademark Attorney (Aus)
  • Master of Laws (Juris Doctor)
  • Self-taught Javascript/HTML/CSS & Design

To chill out I genuinely enjoy beach life (although I don’t see anywhere near as much as I would like too) and as a facet of this I like to surf – predominately long boards. I also enjoy a martial art called Wing Chun which I have been doing on and off for the last 7 years. Hopefully, at some point, I will finally get around to getting my black belt. Other interests include technology, design, UI, law, telecommunications, media, counter strike, and of course – the Internet.

If you want to contact me, feel free to do so using the Contact Me page above. I’m generally happy to meet up with like-minded people to discuss like minded things.
